My Dangerous Pleasure (Witches #4) by Carolyn Jewel lends a wonderful take on demons in that they are not the evil re-incarnate that many books relate. In this story, Paisley Nichols who is a “vanilla” human builds a caring relationship with the demon Iskander. The beginning of the story allows the couple to build a platonic, caring relationship affinity where they both appreciate each others strengths. This type of relating is new to Iskander since he was a rake and fairly recently out of a binding relationship which almost drove him, literally, insane.

Even though Paisley is not portrayed as a kick-ass heroine, she definitely makes up for it in chutzpah. She is an entrepreneur who is being stalked by a good-looking demon who is not right in the head since he is being controlled by someone else who was once close to Iskander. The demented demon’s actions lead to Iskander stepping in to help Paisley and under Iskander’s guardianship and gentlemanly care, Paisley gains a surprising insight to a side of herself she never could have dreamed up in a million years. From there, the plot definitely thickens with passion, intrigue, and secondary characters who add a wonderful addition to the weave of the story.

This is my first foray into Ms. Jewel’s books. Being the fourth book in her Witches Series, I did not think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. In my humble opinion, I don’t think that fact detracted from the story-line of this book. However, My Dangerous Pleasure did peak my interest to read more about the other characters mentioned in this installment. I definitely would recommend this book and the series to my fellow paranormal romance reading pals and those who are new to the genre but love steamy romance and conniving villains.

I am going to keep this review short and sweet...

This book starts out with teen-aged Clary Fray witnessing a murder in the Pandemonium Club. From there the action is non-stop. Clary and her best friend, Simon, are thrown into the world of Shadowhunters, Vampires, Werewolves, and Demons. This tale supplies mystery, a budding romance, excellent character building, and heart-stopping revelations. Cassandra Clare is a phenomenal writer! Her imagination is amazing. This YA novel can stand against any Adult Paranormal Fiction offered on any bookshelves.

Since Winter, a demon-hybrid, lost her husband to a demon attack sixty years ago, she has dedicated her life to eradicating demons. She joins her demon-hybrid group with the lupines and Nightwalkers who are vampires that feed off of emotions rather than blood, to fight against the demons which have become more cohesive and aggressive in their attacks which are targeting the demon-hybrid race.

Marcus, the Nightwalker Lord, recognizes Winter as his mate when he saves her from a demon attack. He is in a race against time to get Winter to recognize him as a mate bond since she is quickly losing her human side to her demon side. The excitement Loribelle Hunt has created in this novel is arresting. In addition to the plot creating a riveting story, Ms. Hunt has anchored the reader through the other peripheral characters in this book. She leaves the reader wanting to know more about the how the outcome of those characters' happily ever after will come to fruition. Great start to a series in the making!

Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole

Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole starts off a thousand years ago with a twelve year old Regin the Radiant meeting Aidin the Fierce which sets the background of how their love-affair began. Then, the story flashes to present day New Orleans and is occurring in tandem to the last installment of the Immortal After Dark book that featured Carrow and Callum.

The conflict in the story begins very quickly which had my heart twisting and remained as such until the last third of the book. Delcan Chase, the commander of the Order, along with some of his soldiers have rounded-up Regin to take her to confinement with the other Lore folk that have been previously captured in an installation on an island where the majority of the novel takes place. From there, things continue to get more tense, dark, and - at times- violent.

The happily ever after for this hero and heroine does not come easily. However, Ms. Cole does a superb job of staying true to the characters we all know and love so well. The author also introduces us to a few new characters that draw you in and thereby win your heart.

The Valkyrie and witch humor is very much alive and well. Because of the sense of humor peppered through out the story and the loyalty of the characters to each other, I was able to keep reading the story without having to put the book down when I grew very frustrated with some of the situations in the story line.

Bottom line is Kresley Cole delivers another outstanding novel in her IAD series. She is able to illicit laughter, frustration, love, and a myriad of other emotions throughout the entirety of this story. Her ability to hook you into her world and not let go until the very end is uncanny.
